All of the above are supervised by a number of our experienced clinicians.   Training is very important within General Practice to future proof its service.

Please be aware that new and existing patients have a GP they are assigned to by the Practice. You can express a preference about the GP they are assigned to. However, as we are a group practice, you can be seen by any GP or Practitioner at the surgery.

Nurse Practitioners

Nurse Practitioners have been trained to deal with minor ailments (sore throats, cystitis etc.) and chronic diseases (coronary heart disease, chronic pulmonary disease, asthma and diabetes. They are highly skilled and very experienced and work closely with the doctors to enhance the scope of the practice team. They are also qualified to prescribe medication.

Nurses

Our highly trained nurses work very closely with the doctors. You may make an appointment directly with the them for blood pressure checks, foreign travel immunisations, tetanus and flu vaccinations, cervical smears, advice on weight loss and smoking cessation, as well as general medical advice.

Reception

Our receptionists make appointments, take requests for repeat prescriptions and deal with requests for home visits. They may need to ask you further details when you telephone. This is to ensure we can assist you as speedily as possible. They are bound by the same rules of confidentiality as the doctors and nurses. They aim to provide a link, rather than a barrier, between you and the doctors. The reception team consists of Hannah, Sarah, Paula, Jean and Julie.

Caroline assists the pharmacist and looks at medicines optimisation.

Community Midwives

Tel: 01706 517223 They help care for women during pregnancy, delivery and after their baby is born. They run regular antenatal clinics, relaxation and parent craft classes.

District Nurses

Tel: 0161 763 8525 Our district nurses are based within the health centre. These nurses provide general nursing care to patients who are ill at home or housebound. They also run daily clinics in the treatment room for dressings, blood tests, ear syringing and injections.

Health Visitors

Tel: 01706 671910 A health visitor is a registered nurse who has received training particularly related to babies, children and pregnant women. Their role is to provide families with children under five years old with support and advice around the general aspects of mental, physical and social wellbeing.

Jake is our Mental Health Worker for Pennines PCN. Patients with significant Mental Health, may be referred to Jake. This service is within Primary Care and often stops the need of a secondary care referral.
